10 Words To Live By

I remember being in Target one day (before I started using the app for Drive-up service), minding my own business, focused on my list, trying to stay within budget when I kept hearing someone one say, “That’s my word though.” I promise we must have had an identical list because every aisle I went down, there he was, on that cell phone, emphatically letting someone know his word.

Being inquisitive I start listening (hey, if he didn’t want me to hear he would have been quieter!) Anyway, about 5 aisles later I found out his word(s). He said, “I live by one word, get money.” I am not going to even touch the fact that that is TWO words. LOL! But, it did prompt me to think about my word to live by. I knew one word wouldn’t be enough so I picked 10. Here they are.

  1. Enjoy: It’s not about money, or what you don’t have. It is simply about being content where you are, with what you have.

  2. Give: Share your gift. Everyone has something; be it time, talent, finances, or a kind word. Give freely what you have and receive more than you ever thought possible.

  3. Smile: People receive what you say better, You feel better, and “you look so much better when you smile”. Also, studies have shown that even fake/forced smiles and laughter release some feel good triggers in your brain that relieve tension.

  4. Travel: If you never leave the US at least go beyond your state line or explore nearby sites and cities. There may be no place like home but that’s all the more reason to get out and experience something new.

  5. Forgive: The past isn’t going to change. No way, no how. However, when you decide to forgive yourself or someone else suddenly the past isn’t so powerful anymore. Being unforgiving only prolongs the pain and suffering. Let it go!

  6. Work: this is not about having a job. This is about putting some effort into your life. Don’t just let things happen to you, make things happen for you!

  7. Believe: Life and death are in the power of your tongue and your thoughts. Visualize where you wanna be and what it takes to get there, speak about it, and believe it can happen. Then refer back to #6 and work for it.

  8. Learn: Be A Sponge. Soak up as much information about as much as you can.

  9. Health: You had to know this would be mentioned! Take care of yourself! You can’t live the optimal life if you’re not in shape physically, mentally, and spiritually.

If I could only pick one word it would be:

10. Love: Love is the greatest feeling on earth. To be able to give and receive it is a privilege. It can hurt but it is more than worth the risk. Love your friends, family and strangers too. Love is simply having compassion for one another.

Which of these words resonate most with you? What are some words you live by?
